We need to send Colleen Reilly and Stephania Stanley of Thursday Night Dinner a thank you card for reminding us what this season is really about, drinking boozed-up cider. These lovely ladies wrote a bad-ass but super simple prescription for a spirited October buzz. Find It Here
What you need:
* ½ gallon apple cider
* 12 cloves
* 3 cinnamon sticks
* 1 cup orange juice
* ½ cup lemon juice
* 1 tsp nutmeg
* 1 ¼ cup dark rum or brandy (or add to taste)
Note: Obviously this can be served without the rum. But, really, what fun is that?
What to do:
Combine first 6 ingredients in a large saucepan; cook over medium heat until thoroughly heated, stirring frequently. Reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes. Remove and discard cinnamon sticks and cloves using a slotted spoon. Stir in rum. Cook over medium heat until thoroughly heated (do not boil). Pour into mugs. Garnish with cinnamon sticks and orange slices if you’re feeling festive.
Extra cider or apple punch can be refrigerated for a week in an air tight container.
